Jacob's 6th Birthday

Jacob turned 6! To celebrate his birthday in Kindergarten we brought in some doughnuts at the end of the school day. All the kids liked them and were very nice, but I think Jacob was still slightly embarrassed that Blake and I came in ha.
They all sang a fun Happy Birthday song to him, but he wouldn't wear his birthday crown so Blake did.
Since it was a Wednesday, Jacob still had vision therapy after school that day, but he always enjoys going because then he gets a break from doing the homework with me once a week! Afterwards, I treated them to McDonald's for lunch and let the boys play awhile.
That night we had spaghetti and corn on the cob at Jacob's request then had a little party for him at home.
Jacob got a lot of fun presents- mostly Minecraft, Star Wars, and ninja turtle toys.
Jacob wanted a Minecraft birthday cake so I made one to look like a "creeper". Both the boys said the cake looked awesome, so I was glad it turned out and was really easy too!

It was a simple day but I think he had a great birthday was excited to finally be 6!

Jacob has grown up so much in the past year! He definitely looks more grown up with his glasses, and his vision therapy, by the way, is really paying off. He's been working so hard and his doctors say they've never seen a kid with amblyopia make improvement as quickly as he has! He is very close to  seeing 20/20 with his glasses now and he's finally started developing some depth perception and working both eyes together. It takes a lot to work with him on it every day at home, but he's so good about coming to me to always get his assignments done.
And even though Kindergarten has been an adjustment and a lot more to learn, he's done great at working hard and I love that he takes responsibility for all he needs to do and is growing independent. He's doing a great job at reading and writing, though he enjoys science, math, and gym more. I love seeing how much he's grown this year!
He enjoys playing with his friend Michael every day who lives across the street, and I think he's pretty lucky that he has a close friend to socialize with and get his energy out with every day.
Jacob is still my silly boy and his interests quickly change with whatever his friends like. His latest obsession obviously is Minecraft related games and toys, and he loves to get Nerf guns and pretend to shoot zombies. Such boys.
Jacob is also a great big brother, and even though him and Blake have their moments where they don't get along, I love that they will still play together and take interests in the same things. Jacob is really good at including Blake when playing with his friends and always tries to be nice to everyone.
Jacob is looking forward to having a baby sister to play with soon too.

What a great kid! We are so happy to have him in our family and look forward to him growing up even more this next year!

My Vegas Getaway

So I turned 30 this year! My birthday itself was simple but great. Luke took half the day off, we went as a family to Panera for lunch, then I got some time to do some shopping by myself. I got myself some shoes, clothes, and a maternity swimsuit. And when I came home the boys had just a few other little presents for me. We had cake early and then Luke and I went out for a dinner date. We went downtown Denver to The Cheesecake Factory, and it was freezing, but it was a great day!
Then a few weeks later I got to celebrate my birthday with a fun trip- 3 days in Vegas with Luke! Luke was actually attending a work conference but he brought me along so that I could relax at the hotel and have free time to do what I want. And seeing that I was 31 weeks pregnant, this is exactly what I needed!
My sister Erika flew in from Idaho to watch the boys while we were gone, and then we flew to Vegas on a Sunday afternoon. As soon as we got there it was so much warmer than Denver! We first checked out our hotel- we were staying at the Aria on the middle of the strip; and then we walked around that night getting dinner and enjoying the most perfect weather!
Our view of the hotel at night- not of the strip but we did have a view of the hotel pools. Monday morning Luke started his trainings all day down in the conference center of the hotel, and since they serve the several hundreds of them breakfast, Luke would sneak some away for me every morning and bring me breakfast in bed. It was awesome! And though I felt pretty special, I guess quite a few guys were doing the same thing, so I must not have been the only pampered wife.

The first morning I took my time getting ready, and then headed out to the pool- luckily it was another beautiful warm day. From the pool I could see our room up on the 22nd floor at the very end.
While I enjoyed sitting out at the pool- after a man asked if it was ok if he could smoke his cigar next to me, I decided to check out the spa instead. And since it was cheap for a day pass, I gave myself a birthday treat- and I think it was worth it! After someone showed me around, and gave me a locker with robe and slippers, I got myself a free drink and headed to their private pool. I was loving it.
I was practically alone through my day at the spa, which was nice- and so much more peaceful and relaxing than the busier pool! This pool was up on a balcony and I could somewhat see and hear the music from the other pool, but being pregnant I enjoyed the quiet and privacy more.
After getting hot sitting outside for awhile, I went into the cold tub to cool down and the the mild hot tub, which felt great on my feet and back from walking around the strip the night before. With all the walking this trip required it was good to have time to put my feet up and relax. Afterwards I laid in a chair in the salt room, and then my favorite was the heated stone beds where I laid in a dark room for over an hour, enjoying the heat of the bed. I enjoyed everything for a few hours, then came back to my room to get ready for the night feeling completely refreshed.
That night we were invited to a dinner by a company involved with the training, so there were about a hundred people there, and it was a delicious dinner and we met some nice people to chat with too.

After dinner, we changed and then walked the strip again. Here is the strip view from our hotel hallway.
It was another beautiful night- we walked by the NY hotel, and one of Luke's highlights was watching a guy make NY style pizza.
We enjoyed the view and walking around the shops until we got tired.
Tuesday morning- another breakfast in bed. Did I mention I didn't even need to get out of bed to open the shades? I had a big remote that controlled everything- very nice! I did get out earlier that morning though since I needed to go to the street and buy some show tickets for that night.
After getting the tickets, I walked the strip, got some souvenirs for the boys at the M&M store, took my time shopping at Ross and other stores, and had some fast food lunch with a nice window view.
After being out most of the day, I found a quiet place at the hotel pool to relax and read in the late afternoon, then showered and got ready for the night. Luckily the shirt and skirt I bought at Ross that day were perfect to wear for the evening.
After Luke got out of training, we stopped at a nice pizza restaurant in the hotel for dinner, which was pretty good, and then went straight upstairs to our show- I loved that everything was in our hotel- less walking! We got tickets for a Cirque du Soleil show called Zarkana.
We had seats in the back and Luke was pretty skeptical, but I really liked it! It was full of acrobatic stunts and really neat performances, so I really enjoyed it and thought it was a fun experience!
Afterwards, we went out and got some ice cream and enjoyed our last night out.
Wednesday was our last day- and my last breakfast in bed. Luke got done with training by 12, so then we picked up lunch at an awesome burger place called Shake Shack, then came back to the hotel pool. Unfortunately for Luke it was the cloudiest day so we spent most of our short time in the hot tub, and Luke got some time at the gym too. Then before we knew it, it was time to pick up our bags and get a taxi to the airport.
I had such a relaxing and nice little vacation! I felt bad Luke didn't get as much free time as I did but I thought we had fun and made the best of the time we had together! And for being pregnant walking around Vegas, I thought I did pretty good! I had been worried that flying and walking would be too much, but with all the relaxing I did too, it worked out great and I wasn't bored at all. I'm so glad I got to enjoy this trip with Luke and get some nice free time to myself! It was a great way to start my 30's!
